Vivienne Westwood has
been known to use her Red Label to help promote current issues and this ss14
was no different. Using Hans
Christian Andersen's ‘The Red Shoes’ as
a metaphor Westwood decorated her models with similar face paints depicting
natural scenes, described by Westwood "like
an animal trapped in the headlights, trying to flee”. The connection between
the story and make-up helped highlight the issue of climate change, showing how
we will become trapped in this world if we continue to treat and misuse it like
we do. Of course as well as using her platform for good Westwood maintained her
classic punk dishevelled chic signature, showcasing another brilliant spring summer
collection. Her classic draping mixed in with current silhouettes, and masculine
highlights make the collection easily wearable and desirable to wear! This season
she has focused mainly on darker pastels mixed with dark accents and a
stunningly busy floral pattern, and of course a flash of her trademark tartan,
another success for the 72-year-old icon.
