Recently I visited
Somerset House to see the Guy Bourdin Exhibition, and as always Somerset House
put on such a beautifully curated exhibit. Somerset House is such a beautiful
space and I always know when I visit I wont be disappointed. Guy Bourdin is
such an interesting character and had such a fulfilling career. After all these
years the Bourdin estate has finally released a selection of work allowing the
exhibition to take place. The exhibition takes you through his early work
shooting for Charles Jourdan through to his later work as a more established
Photographer working with French Vogue, advertising and developing layout. His
work is very stylistic and very reminiscent of man ray bit with a more
contemporary flare. Some of the ideas `Bourdin had and perused were so unusual
and innovative for his time. If you get a chance I definitely recommend going. For
me the best part of the exhibition is a selection of videos and sounds put together
and display in the round, allowing you to feel completely immersed in his work
and loose yourself.
